Welcome to PDWare's ResourceFirst™ Release 9 Scenario Planning Webinar

Hello, I’m Phil Wolf from PDWare. Welcome to the second webinar in our series on the Release Nine product. Today, we’ll focus on scenario planning. For those unfamiliar with PDWare and our ResourceFirst™ approach, our mission is to help organizations develop and maintain high-value, achievable portfolios. We achieve this through four key principles:

  1. Resource Planning Foundation: Resource planning is the cornerstone of effective portfolio management.
  2. Intelligent Project Intake: By ranking initiatives based on strategic importance, we streamline the planning process.
  3. Portfolio Optimization: We consider supply, demand, and strategic importance to create feasible and effective portfolios.
  4. Open Integration: Our systems integrate seamlessly with other major systems to eliminate duplicate entries and unnecessary processes.

Understanding Scenario Planning

Scenario planning is a versatile term used in various ways, but we see it as an approach to help organizations evaluate potential futures and devise the best possible roadmap for their portfolios. ResourceFirst™ supports scenario planning by allowing the creation, storage, and analysis of alternative portfolios and their components.

Today’s demo will cover how scenario planning is applied in real-world situations. Over the past few years, we’ve collaborated with numerous companies on scenario planning. Here are some popular applications for portfolio managers:

  1. Distributing and Dividing the Workload for Building a Feasible Portfolio: Scenario planning lets you divide your portfolio by strategic objectives, product lines, or program management. Each program manager can build their portion of the portfolio, which is then integrated into the live data once finalized.
  2. Selecting Feasible Pipeline Projects to Add to the Portfolio: With part of your portfolio already funded and underway, scenario planning helps you utilize the remaining resources and skills to add new projects. This method aids in optimizing resource allocation.
  3. Choosing Between Two or More Alternative Pipeline Combinations: Scenario planning is crucial when considering different future paths for your portfolio. We’ll explore this approach in today’s demo.
  4. Analyzing the Capacity Requirements for Growing the Portfolio Size: Scenario planning allows you to evaluate the impact of expanding your portfolio and building a long-term staffing plan. This method is also used for long-term capacity planning, projecting multiple years into the future.
