The PMO Center provides a Strategy tab, where your strategic hierarchy can be created, projects can be aligned with strategies, and a dashboard can show how well your projects are executing as related to the strategies they support.
To create a Strategic Hierarchy, go to the Strategy tab in the PMO Center. You’ll be presented with a screen that looks like this:
To add new strategies to the hierarchy, simply click the “+” icon under “Hierarchy.” Name the strategy and drag it to where you’d like it to go in the hierarchy.
To align projects with strategies, on the same screen, click the “+” icon under “Strategy Projects.” You can assign a weight to each project within the strategy, which represents how well it aligns. To delete one or more project(s) from the alignment, select the checkbox next to the projects in question and click the “x” icon.
Aligning projects with strategies will allow you to observe those projects’ KPIs and supporting data in the Strategy Execution Dashboard.
The Strategy Execution Dashboard is a Qlik-powered dashboard that shows each strategy’s underlying projects from four main KPI perspectives:
Below is the Status view (accessible by clicking on the “Status” button in the lower left panel. Notice in the bottom left panel, it shows how many projects are green, red, and yellow. The actual projects are shown in the right panel, along with all four KPIs (Status, Feasibility, Financial, and Risk)
In the upper left panel, the summarized KPIs are shown for each strategy. Clicking on any indicator will drill down to show the statistics for just that area.
Notice the row just above the charts. It’s the Qlik control panel. The “Clear” button on the left can reset the screen to how it was up front (with no filters). The back arrow can be used to backtrack screen-by-screen. The other icons are discuss in the Reporting section of this site.
Below is the Feasibility view (accessible by clicking on the “Feasibility” button in the bottom left panel), which shows a different perspective.
Notice the bottom left panel shows allocation vs. shortfall. The panel on the right shows a different set of data as well, including Financial feasibility, Forecast (how much effort was forecasted), Allocation (how much was able to be allocated), and Shortfall (how much wasn’t able to be allocated).
Below is the Financial view (Accessible by clicking on the “Financial” button in the lower left panel). In the bottom left pane, you’ll see Budget vs. Cost vs. Revenue for the projects in your filter. The panel on the right shows the related financial data, including the overall Financial score, Budget, Cost, and Revenue.
Below is the Risk view (accessible by clicking the “Risk” button in the bottom left panel).
In the bottom left panel, you’ll see a summary of how many risks there are by risk type. The panel on the right shows the risks, who they’re assigned to, and the probability, impact, and total score.
