Using the Status Module
This Document can be found in the following categories:
The PDWare Status module serves two purposes; status entry/reporting and review
of project history and performance. The Status Entry sheet is used for the first
purpose, all other sheets provide ways to see and understand
previous reports and performance.
To launch the Status Module, right click on any row on any project
type sheet (e.g. Project Demand) and select SHOW STATUS. The right
click SHOW STATUS command is also available on the Effort
Forecasts sheet and on Resource Request sheets.
A project OBS node owner has rights (P2 or above) to check out the
node and change any field on any project. A project manager with
manager rights to individual projects usually does not have node
owner rights. The only way the project manager can change Project
fields in the database is to submit status.
The only fields the project manager can modify and submit are the
standard
status fields and the administrator defined status optional
fields that are not Read Only.
NOTE: Status can be submitted either from the Status Module OR from
the Project Data sheet in the Portfolio Data Module. (See Submitting Status from
Project Data.)
Project Status Process
Project status can be submitted through the Status module or by
updating fields on Project Data and selecting DATABASE>SUBMIT
STATUS.
Periodic Status Reports
The project manager is expected to forecast phase and milestone
completion dates and other critical project parameters on a
periodic basis. Frequency of reporting is a function of project
duration and type but should be monthly at least and more often if
appropriate.
When a project manager submits status in PDWare Portfolio, ALL
fields on the Project Data sheet as well as milestone names and
dates are saved to the database.
Project Baselines
Immediately after a successful project life cycle phase
transition review, the project baseline should be captured. A
project baseline has a name (usually the upcoming phase name) and
includes all the project data in a normal status submiission plus
all labor (resource plan) and non-labor assignment data currently
in the database. (See Resource Baselines and
Actuals.)
